In the last few year MAGIGAS has been the most active company in Italy - and perhaps in Europe- in the field of research on bio-ethanol based fuels. Because of their experience with their Extreme Competition division in the racing sector Magigas has been able to identify BIO-ETHANOL as a product which not only has outstanding “green” features but also surprising competition characteristics , with a high flame front and a high octane index (Ron 108).
In a gasoline motor fuelled with bio-ethanol mixtures, these features make it possible to increase compression and the boosting pressure , and to be able to “anticipate ignition” , with a consequent
Increase in power without risking cylinder seizure or pre-detonation. Bio-ethanol has a chemical formula (CH3CH2OH) which is rich in oxygen and therefore combustion is much cleaner and more complete than with fossil fuels and the exhaust fumes are rich with water vapour with a very low presence of carbon monoxide and Nitrogen oxide (NOx).
In 2008 Magigas had already received an award from the FIA for the most ecological fuel.
Magigas acquires their raw material (ethylic alcohol) from the waste products of wine and grappa production and buys all the alcohol that for very reasons cannot be used in the manufacture of these two drinks. Magigas Bio-ethanol is therefore of strictly non-food origin.
